New Details on Penelope Princess of Pets UK Premiere

Details are emerging on the highly anticipated UK premiere of Penelope Princess of Pets. We’ve obtained a British press release that’s so British, Jon Oliver should be here to explain it all.

Edinburgh Comedy Award nominees KRISTEN SCHAAL (star of BBC Four’s Flight of the Conchords and US Esquire’s ‘Funniest Woman on Television’) and KURT BRAUNOHLER are joined by The Mighty Boosh’s JULIAN BARRATT in Penelope Princess of Pets, a one-off special for Channel 4’s Comedy Lab which will transmit on April 26th 2010.

Meet Penelope (KRISTEN SCHAAL), a young lady with a very special power… When Penelope became a woman, she discovered that she could talk to more than just people – she could talk to animals. But as any hero knows, with great power comes great responsibility and now Penelope’s gift has taken her, along with her orphan friend Kyle (KURT BRAUNOHLER) and bird Ruby, all the way to England where the trio have only 3762 hours to save the world from the evil MP Thomas Stone (JULIAN BARRATT).

In an epic battle of brain and brawn – that takes in Shakespeare, stately homes, dastardly schemes and martial arts trained fighting twins – will Penelope and Kyle’s ingenuity, along the help of their animal friends (featuring the voices of DANIEL KITSON and Peep Show’s ISY SUTTIE) be enough to save the day?

Penelope Princess of Pets is written by KRISTEN SCHAAL and KURT BRAUNOHLER and produced by SPENCER MILLMAN (Harry Hill’s TV Burp, Bo’ Selecta! and The Mighty Boosh).

KRISTEN and KURT recently appeared in a prestigious “Comedy Central Presents” in the USA, are winners of the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Barry Award, and have developed a large cult following in New York for their wildly popular variety show, Hot Tub (named Time Out New York’s Best Variety Show).

British TV audiences will know KRISTEN from transmissions of The Daily Show (More Four) and Flight of the Conchords (BBC Four), as well as appearances on Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC Two) and The Secret Policeman’s Ball (Channel 4). She will be voicing a new character in the eagerly anticipated Toy Story 3 movie (also starring TOM HANKS) and in the latest Shrek movie, Shrek Forever After, and is set to feature (alongside RUSSELL BRAND) in the forthcoming JUDD APATOW film Get Him To The Greek. Other recent film roles have seen KRISTEN perform opposite DREW BARRYMORE and JUSTIN LONG (Going The Distance), ANJELICA HUSTON and DANNY DE VITO (When In Rome), and JEREMY PIVEN in the WILL FERRELL produced The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard. Recently named The Funniest Woman on Television by US Esquire, the past year has seen KRISTEN feature in Entertainment Weekly’s Next Big Things in Comedy end of year issue and Entertainment Weekly’s 25 funniest women in Hollywood as well as the 2009 Variety Top 10 Comics To Watch. This spring she will support Flight of the Conchords on their European live tour.
